There was a big misconception that Chipotle's success was based on its customization and that people just wanted customized everything. But they already have a lot of customized options.
@jonathanmaze THE CHIPOTLE of pizza is not a market need as every pizza place on earth customizes the pies. The brand proposition never made sense to me.

The price question is interesting. I'm sure it had an impact over time. But it's not as if those $6.99 pizza chains are thriving right now. They are not. But it was definitely tough to market single-serve pizzas that cost more than that.
