Project #1 will primarily involve oxygen isotope analysis, from any/all of carbonates (incl. ostracods), diatom silica or cellulose, with sites from Kangaroo Island (SA) and south-west WA. Project #2, with @john_tibby will focus on diatom analysis (modern and fossil).

Applications are due (via Earthworks) on 30/May/2024. You must be able to commence the PhD here in Adelaide before 31/December/2024 - these are the funding rules I'm afraid.

Applications are welcome from either domestic (Australian) or international candidates. You will work with myself, @john_tibby and a host of local/national/international, including @AlexFra_palaeo. We have a vibrant, diverse and supportive research group with great facilities 3/n

The projects are linked to my Australian Research Council Future Fellowship, 'Past trends and future risk of climate extremes'. The aim being to better constrain climate variability and the drivers of multi-decadal extremes in droughts/floods/fires. 2/n

I'm super excited to advertise 2 fully funded PhD scholarships here @UniofAdelaide, Australia, to work on climate and environmental change through the last 2000 years, using #isotopes or #diatoms in lake sediments in southern Australia https://t.co/CtatxmZ95y

🚨 New paper: behind every cute parrot or songbird bought online, theres a story. @KatherineGWHill @AdamToomes @jonathanjtyler @InvasionEcology analysed 14k 🇦🇺 pet trades & found certain traits closely tied to sales with most species sold not native 🦜 ➡️ https://t.co/9g24ypk0SQ

Our new paper on the contemporary isotope hydrology of Lake Suigetsu, Japan. Huge amount of effort by several people, especially Charlie, in an attempt to underpin isotope based climate reconstructions from this amazing archive.

the paper is a global synthesis of water isotope proxy data for the past 2000 years. it shows, empirically, a strong influence of global temperature on the global water cycle, on timescales of decades to centuries. cool, huh.

Today in @NatureGeosci, a culmination of NINEish years of hard work by 40+ people, lead by the indefatigable @other_rock Iso2k is the source of & inspiration for some of my best science, and definitely the source of some of my favourite science people. https://t.co/GHt5A3bMCg

The nutshell: We synthesized globally distributed, water isotope based proxies for hydroclimate during the past two millennia, and found coherent changes in the water cycle as the planet cooled then warmed. See also this nice writeup from @WUSTLnews

Research led by Bronwen Konecky in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis takes an important step toward reconstructing a global history of water over the last 2,000 years.

I'm going to repost this thread, with the explainer that a lecturer in Australia is the same as an Assistant Professor elsewhere. #palaeoclimate #climate #isotopes #sediments #Quaternary #palaeoenvironments
JOB OPPORTUNITY: Come work with us! 4 year lectureship in palaeoclimatology/isotope geochemistry. Earth Sciences at the Uni of Adelaide, Australia. Sun, sand, isotopes and climate. Great facilities, students and colleagues. What more could you want?! https://t.co/3ni1i1wHsN 1/n

@PAGES_IPO 2k friends I'm looking at you: come to beautiful Adelaide, where you'd become a significant part of the Aus 2k isotope-climate community. It's 4 (well-paid) years, so definitely worth the move from whatever continent you're reading this from

This is a backfill position to cover my role while I do an Australian Research Council fellowship on isotopes and Australian climate through the last 2000 years. It would be great if you could collaborate on that project (or similar), but that's not essential. 2/n
