My favourite scribal error in this ms. so far: ἐν τοῖς περὶ τῆς προνοίας rendered as ... περὶ πορνείας. From Providence to Prostitution. An unknown apocryphal book of the Bible?

Just imagine how much fun the scribe must have had with this phrase: εἰς Τα καΤώΤαΤα Τῆς γης

What's the Greekest word? I'd go with λόγος. 🥹

Oha, hier steht ja sogar eine Variante: τοῦ βίου statt τοῦ φρονεῖν. "Größter Ursprung des Lebens ist die Schrift."

ἀρχὴ μεγίστη τοῦ φρονεῖν τὰ γράμματα. Des Denkens größter Ursprung ist die Schrift. Prima Satz zur Einführung ins griechische Schreiben, beliebt bei Schulübungen, wie auch auf dieser Wachstafel (P.Berol.14000 G1): https://t.co/39bjPDb6vA

One of my favorite ways to begin teaching first year Greek is to have students write out: ἀρχὴ μεγίστη τοῦ φρονεῖν τὰ γράμματα. At this stage, students don't know what these words mean (or even how the letters are properly formed). /1

Write it out, good idea! Even better: Chant it in class, memorize, and recite—like a nursery rhyme, always with rhythm! ἀρχὴ μεγίστη τοῦ φρονεῖν τὰ γράμματα. ‒‒ ⏑‒ ‒|‒ ⏑‒ ⏑‒ ⏑‒ #trimeter 🤓

"Despite the ligature's origin in Greek, there is no separate provision for its encoding in the Greek script, because it was deemed to be a mere ligature on the font level but not a separate underlying character." https://t.co/gQvCclzV1R
