A friend recently shared how a company I used to work with was using my quotes to pitch clients. And, fair enough, I’m proud my work gets to live on in these spaces, but it’s just sad that I can’t do the same.

The recognition part really gets me. I’ve had to cut ties with publishers and companies over how untenable they made my job (being paid late, or not at all, rude editors, racism, you name it..) only to see my work being recirculated and drive traffic for said companies.

Always found it interesting how writers/journalists create work that pushes culture, brings legitimacy, clout,etc. to these publications, celebrities and brands for meager one-time compensation (royalties do not exist in this industry) and don’t even receive proper recognition.
