ik i sounded harsh in this tweet but i think this is fair criticism, especially when it comes to a dub of such a highly anticipated series. people expected a lot from this, especially since they made us wait 2 months for it, just for it to be lacking in so many ways.

i wanna be clear, i'm not a guy who hates dubs and i'm not a sub elitist. i can appreciate when a dub sounds good and there are plenty of amazing dubs out there. this just isn't one of them. i don't want ppl to be hating on dubbed anime as a whole just because this dub was bad.

i didn't want to hyperanalyze this scene but my mentions have been getting filled with ppl genuinely thinking the sub and the dub are the same in this scene which couldn't be farther from the truth. if you genuinely believe that, you might need to get your ears checked 😭😭

the whole purpose of usami's entrance is to appear standoffish, which in the sub, they convey that really well. he sounds bold, assertive, and almost sassy in this scene. he actually sounds like he's confronting someone and you can hear how irritated he is in his voice.

im seeing an alarming amount of ppl saying the japanese version sounds the exact same as this and like... no?? are we listening to the same japanese version? you can actually hear the emotion in his voice in the sub. it's not robotic and deadpan like it is in the dub.
