We fly home tomorrow on EI0068 (LAX→DUB) and our seats are STILL split. @AerLingus we’ve DM’d the details — we need a human agent to confirm today our family (infant + 5yo) will be seated together. We will not rely on passengers swapping again.

What’s even worse: we saw a bassinet row occupied by a family with older kids (not infants). It’s hard to understand how a system doesn’t prioritise families with actual infants + small children. It felt completely random.

We have a 1-year-old who needs bassinet area seating, and on a 14-hour flight we need both parents together to safely manage the baby + child. “One parent alone at the back” is not a workable solution.

On board, we were eventually told we had to ask another passenger to swap so our 5-year-old wouldn’t be seated alone. That passenger had paid extra for her seat. She swapped out of kindness — we even offered to repay her. We should never have been put in that position.

We called support multiple times. We were told: “check-in will fix it.” Check-in told us: “gate staff / cabin crew will fix it.” Gate staff said: “cabin crew will fix it.” Constant hand-offs. No ownership.

Is @AerLingus breaking the rules by separating a 5-year-old from their parents on a long-haul flight? We travelled DUB→LAX with a 1-year-old (infant) and a 5-year-old and your system split our seats.

@AerLingus A 5-year-old should never be separated from their parents on a long-haul flight. On our DUB→LAX trip, @AerLingus kept passing us from phone support → check-in → gate → cabin crew, then told us to ask another passenger to swap seats.

8/8: @AerLingus please have someone contact us urgently to fix our seating before we fly home. We need our family seated together so we can safely care for our children. We should not be forced to sort this out with other passengers again.

7/8: our return flight is in a couple of days and it’s even longer (14 hours). Our seats are STILL split up. We cannot have our 5-year-old seated alone again while managing a baby on a long-haul flight.

6/8: To make it worse, there were multiple empty Business Class seats, yet no effort was made to resolve this professionally. Zero ownership. Zero common sense.

5/8: That passenger had paid extra for her seat and was understandably upset. She agreed out of kindness, leaving us feeling awful. This should NEVER be put on passengers - especially with young kids on an 11-hour flight.

4/8: Gate staff said the same. On board, we were passed between cabin crew and eventually told we’d have to ask another passenger ourselves to swap seats.🙈

3/8: Check-in at Dublin was chaos. 4 out of 5 bag-drop counters closed for a full flight. Queue didn’t move for 15+ mins. When we reached staff, we were told cabin crew would handle seating.

2/8: Despite multiple calls, our 5-year-old ended up seated behind us. Phone support told us check-in would fix it. We arrived 4 hours early to sort it…

1/8: Families shouldn’t have to beg other passengers to sit with their kids. @AerLingus extremely disappointed with our Dublin → Los Angeles flight. Travelling with a 1-yr-old & 5-yr-old, we couldn’t select seats due to travelling with an infant and were told to contact support.
