Twitter has devolved into a platform that allows racism, bigotry, & hate to flourish. I refuse to take part in this, I’m making the move to BlueSky. For those who wish to continue to stay informed about the latest from TX legislator & the work I’m doing, follow me @repjohnbryant

At a time when health outcomes in Texas lag behind the national average and so many people are uninsured, we need to make healthcare more accessible. To address this crisis, I’ve pre-filled H.B. 1355 (5/5).

There’s no good reason for this. Federal funding is available to cover the cost of expanding Medicaid—$11.9 billion in 2023 alone—that TX is leaving on the table by refusing to expand. This funding would cover 1.8 million more Texans who would otherwise go w/out healthcare. (4/5).

Further, nearly 1.7 million people have lost their Medicaid coverage in 2023 alone. Despite the clear need, #Texas remains one of ten states that has not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). (3/5).

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the nation. Over 770,000 Texans are caught in a coverage gap—unable to qualify for #Medicaid and also ineligible for premium subsidies to afford private insurance. (2/5).

To address these disparities, I have pre-filed HB 1257 to increase funding for public schools, raise teacher pay, expand early education, and provide mental health support for students. (5/5).

After years of denying schools the resources they need, Republicans are pushing to drain even more funds by redirecting public education dollars to private school vouchers. (4/5).

Republican leaders continue to neglect educators, imposing political restrictions on classroom discussions and fueling the false narrative that teachers are indoctrinating students. (3/5).

Current education funding in Texas remains at 2014 levels. While recapture and inflation have worsened the funding situation, the most detrimental factor is the legislature's inaction. (1/5)

Too often, those in power fail to deliver the support our veterans need, despite claiming to champion their cause. Change isn’t easy, but our commitment to progress must remain unwavering. (3/3).

Yet, too many #veterans face hardship. In 2023, Texas saw a 19% increase in veterans experiencing homelessness. This is not how we should honor those who gave so much for our nation. (2/3).

You have the right to stay in line as long as it takes to be able to cast your ballot. If there’s any issue with your name not appearing on the voter roll, don’t worry—ask for a provisional ballot. (3/4).

However, Tx Sec. of State Elect. Advis. # 2021-11 directs election officials to immediately reinstate voters who’ve been incorrectly removed upon showing proof of citizenship. Our nation is founded on the principles of democracy & every vote is vital. Make your voice heard. (3/3).

There are reports of eligible #voters being told they are unable to vote this year because they didn't respond to a request to prove citizenship within the given time period. (2/3).
