There’s so much that can be done in the non-crypto world with zkps. Some might question why you’d even need a blockchain as a verifier though, but I’d argue it really goes back to some of the core blockchain properties: decentralization, liveness and censorship resistance.
Where ZK really shines is enabling verifiable, offchain computation to be brought onchain in a cheap, fast manner. The unlocks of not doing *everything* onchain are going to be a breakthrough for the usecases which are "normal" in web2.

Such an important statement here @ZKVProtocol @HorizenLabs.
In rollups, settlement is where you finalize state transitions and handle disputes in a censorship resistant way. However, the idea of "inheriting security" from the L1 is a bit flawed of a mental model that is commonly misunderstood. While rollups rely on the L1 for finality.
