It is regrettable that there's less games coming out specifically for the hardcore fans, but there are many gems if you dig deep enough! It's just not realistic for most indie FG devs to target only a hardcore audience these days.

And, well, I've seen it work with HF1. I've had people tell me that it's one of the few games that both their casual and hardcore FG friends can enjoy together, and others say they never played fighting games before but it got them hooked on the genre.

But just because fighters are "easier" doesn't mean they can't still be interesting. Restraint breeds creativity - within the limited mechanics of my game, I still try to experiment with crazy ideas that you don't see in mainstream fighting games.

Then there's the issue of keeping it alive. Even the best anime fighting games have trouble getting past the point of Discord fighter. The genre is already niche, and to make a game that succeeds in this space it's easier to target a more casual audience.

Cutting down on move count, mechanical complexity, etc. tends to be a choice made from scoping down far enough to where the game is actually viable to make for a small team.

Honestly, a lot of it stems from a lack of resources. Providing the whole fighting game package players expect these days is a tough ask for AAA companies and many times more so from indie developers.

The accessibility trend in indie fighting games is an interesting topic. I can see why people are averse to it, but let me offer my perspective.

I'm going to rest and finally finish up DK Bananza. Not sure how many more events I'll be at, but this one at least was unforgettable. Shoutouts to @mrmkl_ for organizing everything! The indie space was a dream come true!.

Really glad to have gone and met so many amazing players and devs. I really believe in this game more than ever now. A bunch of content creators came by and took footage, so you might see some coverage out in the wild 👀.

The pins came late so I couldn't give any out on Friday, but I ran out anyway! More Goto and Vince pins plus a new Yona pin!

People seemed to like Yona a lot with all her movement tech and setups, which I'm very happy about. I think one of my favorite parts of designing the first game was giving everyone crazy unique movesets, and from her on it'll for sure get wilder.

Finally got back and had some time to rest! Evo was one of the most stressful yet fun weekends of my life. Big thanks to everyone that stopped by the booth to try the game! And sorry if I seemed out of it, I was pretty exhausted leading up to and during the event.
