Our latest work was published last Thursday in @NaturePhotonics, have a look if you are interest how a combination of quantum states, spatial modes of light, and the Gouy phase can have some surprising outcomes. https://t.co/S2H0YLtQC0

For the python aficionados, I've made a simple python wrapper of @joelacarpenter's fast digital holography. Available for everyone to use on my git: https://t.co/6PYPDjKLEo with a notebook that explains the steps. Have fun!

Python wrapper of fast off-axis digital holography library
'digHolo' high-speed off-axis digital holography library available. Open-source for x86 Windows/Linux. Python, Matlab & C++ examples. Video usage tutorial and 90+ page documentation for every function input/output. Blazingly fast at extracting HG/LG coefficients from fields (1/8)

It might not look like much, but this tool developed by #UQ's @MPlochner and his team measures lasers, and could make tech even faster 🔌⚡ Read more here: https://t.co/l8VDddWDUV

Can even distinguish between modes that occupy the same time/wavelength bins on detector based on coherence. Essentially temporally & spectrally resolved spatial state tomography applied to a laser diode (VCSEL). Bit like what you’d get with a streak camera, but more detailed.

Congrats to @MPloschner et al. Technique lets you see the field of each mutually incoherent low power laser mode evolve in time/wavelength as modulated @ GHz. See CLEO PacRim, Talk CFP6J-01 Friday 3:30pm (UTC+9)
Check out this new Nature Comms paper https://t.co/yhZzbdu5Tw , by Martin Plöschner, that describes a method for measuring polarisation, spectrum, temporal dynamics, and spatial complex amplitude of optical beams, which was demonstrated on a VCSEL. It is a great read!!

Thanks for having me at TU Dresden. Plenty of good discussions and questions during the visit.
We are delighted that @joelacarpenter from @UQscience visted us, yesterday and gave a talk at our lecture series. Since he's a pioneer in our member's research fields, we feel grateful to chat with him during coffee and lunch and to present our labs to him. It was a pleasure!

Very much enjoyed #icoam2022 in Tampere. The headset microphone made me feel like I was giving a self-empowering motivational rally, à la Tony Robbins. Buy my latest book '7 simple steps to academic freedom'.
Joel Carpenter is now taking the stage to talk about a new kind of spatiotemporal field #icoam2022 @flagshipprein @TampereUni

Are these rotary shutter type doors normal for entry to high-power labs? I’ve felt a bit weird in the days since I stepped out of that chamber. Is it also normal to get face sores & back bristles? It’s probably fine, but I’m just a bit anxious about it because it’s getting worse.

Science outreach means going where the people are, & hopefully once/day, the people are _here_. Focus was partially elsewhere but learnt a little about graphene @ Exeter. Surprisingly, the toilet paper was also graphene; the ultimate 1 ply (1/2)

If I had been kidnapped, UQ would have had to call @MickaelMounaix back from annual leave and parachute him into the jungles of Sussex to retrieve me.

Tipoff about the studio came last minute via my youtube comments. Unscheduled gem of the trip. I took the photos of lab/studio from this article because I actually didn’t take any myself. Also contains info about the lab. https://t.co/OarxbbZ2T3 (3/3)

Prof David Brotherton-Ratcliffe’s work in applied optics has to a large extent mirrored the fortunes of holography. Holography News met up with David and his team at Geola’s research labs in the UK...

Technically impressive large (up to 1m²) full colour holograms, e.g. https://t.co/wsERnJj3X0 Artistically impressive works by Ioana Pioaru. Ioana does 3D sketches in VR & holographically prints IRL. https://t.co/XPkJHvBN6d Video doesn't do justice. (2/3)

Detour ORC->Stansted to see Geola holography studio down rural road. I estimated 50% chance I’d end up in ‘Misery’-style situation, chained to desk & forced to calculate holograms. Instead, saw large holographic printer & very impressive artworks (1/3)
