It infuriates me the way single people are almost always excluded from the houses crisis. It's as if they haven't met the gold standard of coupledom. Their lives, their choice, their right. #Cblive

@joancooke5 A lot of emotion in my house tonight watching Claire Byrne. My lads working their butts off and might never be able to get a mortgage.

@joancooke5 Very True and family breakdowns. Parents often stay in the same home creating toxicity and dysfunction damaging their children and their perspectives on healthy relationships because they've no other options.

@joancooke5 I found Peter Burke extraordinary in his clear view that only houses for conventional families matter, why draw a line like that? And writing off city centers to investment funds? The housing situation is utterly heartbreaking and we will pay a heavy price in the future

@maamvalley There are so many neglected Georgian houses around too which could be converted into lovely spacious apartments .

@joancooke5 many โ€˜single incomeโ€™ households are locked out of decent housing in cities, & it includes single people, single parents, families with disabilities, & those with caring responsibilities

@joancooke5 Plus they always talk of first time buyers as a divorced woman mid 40s with a reasonable job but divorced house sold mid crash so no equity released... I'll never afford to buy again.

@joancooke5 @bberrybeth365 Yep. As a 50yr old single woman with no family or children & a basic income I might as well not exist, as not one part of any system of society considers my existence worthless. You're constantly penalised as a singleton, don't even get me started on single supplement holidays!

@joancooke5 I had a lot of miserable more-or-less-old-woman and also single gripes about the lack of consideration for those who live alone in Covidโ€™s precautionary measures too ...
