I use copilot chat a lot to explain concepts and help with debugging. It is not trained on Laravel 11 or Livewire 3 though, and either I’m asking it harder questions or it’s getting dumber. What AI coding tools are good for #Laravel?.

Anyway the moral of the story is, if you think you have to use !important in your CSS, you probably just need a refresher on specificity. Also, please for the love of all that is holy, stop applying CSS on IDs!.

This is usually fine, but this was inside a modal and we wanted the close button to be the first item, so it was adding margin-top on the heading. Permission requested to add !mt-0 to the h2 element. denied! first-of-type:mt-0 works just as well.

Something that I've found helpful for anyone else who comes across this - pseudo classes are your friend. For example, we had an issue with a modal that was part of a third-party package, that applied everyone's favourite h2:not(:first-child) rule.

One of the challenges is that many of the available packages (we're working in the #TALL stack) provide the ability to add classes, but not remove them. So if there is already an 'mt-2' on there, adding 'mt-0' doesn't do anything without the dreaded !.

We've recently switched to #tailwindcss and it's been a real challenge when certain packages we rely on apply their own utility styles. Some are better than others at providing clean and simple ways to override/customise these.

Currently on a mission to ensure that exclamation points only exist at the end of things, not at the start.
