With the release this week of the “Enablement Plan” for Moore Park South that cuts the golf course in half, I thought it would be good to document the usage of the whole Moore Park Parklands at peak. In a surprise to no one, the golf course was heaving and the parklands empty.

So what does this all mean… 1) use data and not opinions to make policy, 2) address the underutilisation of the Moore Park Parklands, 3) have clear, measurable outcomes for the whole precinct, 4) work collaboratively with the golf community, the stewards of the most used asset

Finally, let’s check out the last immediate parklands, Moore Park West.. (also completely empty)

For good measure let’s check in on the empty Moore Park East, 1pm on a Saturday..

This isn’t about having a go at other types of recreation, we need lots of varying types of passive and active recreation.. though not at the detriment of the most used and in-demand asset in the precinct. #savemooreparkgolf

There is one cricket match happening at midday on a Saturday across the road. 3 pitches, a soccer field and multipurpose courts all empty.. golf course is full.

The proposal to the capacity for golf at Moore Park by 60% is the wrong solution to the wrong problem at a time when demand for golf has never been greater. Policy by decree will not deliver the best outcomes for people. Here’s how we can do better.
