i feel like all these scripted ad libs are there to both push the narrative “look how kind lestat is, he still loves them despite everything” but also to justify why he’s not the one deciding their sentence, to show that he’s emotionally compromised in case he pulls off smth wild
fascinating how little lestat actually went off script. “it’s a story of love” scripted. “you sentence them for their crimes you sentence me too” scripted. most of his “ad libs” are built into the script to be delivered like they’re real. this whole thing is so much more sinister

It's striking that the scripted version of the trial has Lestat talking about thinking that Louis loved him too much to kill him, but when Lestat goes off-script and starts talking about his real feelings, he says "I couldn't force him to love me."
