Published in the Irish Times six years ago. I always think of this letter at this time of year. So moving.

"What a sad, grim thing" @IrishTimesSport @MalachyClerkin hits the spot again on closure of Northern Standard Co. Monaghan after 186 years.Having worked for @SligoChampion 40 of its 189 years, I can easily identify with importance of local papers.Should not be taken for granted.

The organized chaos of #LateLateToyShow with it's excited kids, frenzied audience and constant costume changes for host, must be a production nightmare, and yet they pull it off magnicently. Kudos to PK and production team, talented kids and so many generous donors. It's a gift.

This is brilliant, well worth a listen. Staff from all departments at Sligo hospital coming together to produce an annual Panto and raising substantial funds for local causes. Well done all. Laughter is indeed the best medicine ๐๐
๐ข Listen to this interview featuring Niamh Manly Radiographer and SUH Hospital Panto Director on RTE Liveline. Well done to all the #teamSUH panto crew https://t.co/HnM8hv1yR4

What songs! What memories! Bought at least 20 of these and bopped along at the Summerhill hops! Ah, those were the days ๐ฅณ

For those of us who grew up loving football in the 60s/70s, Billy Bonds was a central figure. Always seemed to be one of the good guys, loyal, full-hearted, wearing his greatness lightly. Another legend gone. RIP #hammers #billybonds #WHUFC

Sky teeing up Keane as man of the match so they get chance to ask him about bust up. Not undeserving, but would be a great tactic. They won't get him otherwise. #ManUtd @SkySportsPL #SkySports

In the light of today's Young Player of the Year award, this is worth another outing. Congrats Owen, outstanding achievement.๐๐
Been watching Rovers for more than half century, can honestly say Owen Elding is the best young player I've seen since the emerging Ski McGee. And his goal tonight best Rovers goal at Dalymount since Harry McLoughlin's 1983 FAI Cup winner. #bitored

Of course there are more important topics, but that forced football chat was nauseating. None of them give a flying f..k. Even Dunphy didn't know who set up Parrott's goal, and none of them addressed serious under-funding of game here.#TonightVMTV

Superb writing by Ken Early. In Sligo, our privilege was to know the beauty of Seamus Coleman long before rest of the world caught on. Nothing he says or does surprises us. Early's astute piece captures the essence of a great footballer, a giant of a man.Terrific read. #bitored
Sรฉamus Coleman will go down as one of the great underappreciated players, including in his own country, writes Ken Early
