This is a reasonable take. If care about practical use maybe you won’t benefit much. But I’ve found papers to be beneficial beyond their practical use. Good papers can help you imagine things differently. To be a fuller more thoughtful person. Use is secondary. Learning is first.
At the point in my career as an SWE where I feel like reading an academic paper or a software book won’t really make a high impact on my life. Do you know what I mean?. The ceiling for becoming an expert is so high, I can always learn something new. But at some point I feel like.
