2/2 I’m also quoted in an article in the October issue of The Atlantic on Josiah Henson, who is best known for inspiring title character in Uncle Tom's Cabin (behind a paywall, but it's at: https://t.co/Q7zJy7EHUo). Thanks to Wallace Hettle for catching the second one.

1/2 Two very different things: a story in a new SF anthology, Invasion.. "Overkill," takes place in a near-future Des Moines ( https://t.co/tTgjbivcx2).

As promised, I pinked up the beard for one more outing before shaving it off for the season. #teamflamingo

RAGBRAI 2023 is in the books. 7 days, 500+ miles. Shout out to Michael M. Knapp, who put all the pieces together for the 40th anniversary of #teamflamingo, which had riders this year ranging from 12 to 78. It will seem odd not to wake up and get on a bike tomorrow.

It’s day 6 of RAGBRAI, and even the parts of my body uninvolved with cycling are sore. Almost hit 100 this afternoon, so I’ve had enough water to drink to send California into a drought. Met plenty of fine folks. Last day tomorrow!

RAGBRAI day 5: today was the hardest ride of the week (brutal hills between Kellogg and Grinnell), but I finished in time to meet my support team (Julie) and will get to spend a night at home before heading back out tomorrow morning.

Day 4: a short but hot day from Ames to Des Moines featuring the inaugural ride of Number Bird. Tomorrow is the Beast Day: long, hilly and hot.

Day 3: rode the full century today, saw a wedding at a beer tent, popped a spoke (thanks Bike Tech for the repair). Hey, Carole Fishback, look who found me!

Day 2: not as many miles. Still hot. Rachel joins the ride and we’re crashing on the floor of a day care center. #RAGBRAI

Day 1 in the books (except for an outrageously long shower line). Hot but hazy made for a good ride. #teamflamingo

In the poems collected in What Woman That Was, Anne Myles enables us to imagine the adult life and Quaker calling of Mary Dyer, giving new life to the martyr hanged by colonial Puritans in Boston.

This Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., I'll be at the Waterloo Public Library talking about my science fiction novel, The Cord, and about the world of book publishing. Check it out: https://t.co/zphP1Gmrdi

Very weird to be watching an episode of the 1619 Project and to see an ad come on from the Ron DeSantis superPAC.
