So i've had the Scump/H3CZ v. Activision Blizzard lawsuit since last night. Read through it and the thing that stands out the most is this line:
"On a conference call, one Activision executive explicitly told Rodriguez that he was not the 'type of owner' Activision wanted for…
I am going to write something about this, but I don't want to write surface level stuff without digging into the most important bits. I hope some smart IP lawyers/experts are looking at this and getty ready to make content around it. This is your time to shine!
I really wonder how many esports journalists and Twitter tastemakers with vast jersey collections out here are scared about writing stories tied to companies in Riyadh and Dubai.
When you read a story where a content creator is (allegedly) owed $1M, an international team is…
@davidgura
Politics aside, there's a lesson here: Your emails to Politico are ON THE RECORD, and communication with them is tricky because you don't know what rules they are using or what they are agreeing to, apparently. Magic 8-ball journalism.

@BLASTPremier
is not commenting about its
#NEOM
deal. A rep from the company told me this morning: "At this stage, we don't have anything to add to this story."
I have been working on a new esports business news site called The Esports Advocate over the last few months. I think there is enough there to say it's "officially open for business."
Let's explore why "another site about esports" is needed.🧵
To all the media outlets that seemingly ignored this story, here's one of the end results of this story. But just one. Are you going to pay attention now? Do these people matter to you? Asking for a friend.

I keep hearing the same stories in esports over and over again:
- no contract, virtual handshake deals.
- no invoicing.
- people don't pay, or partially pay with the promise of catching up "soon."
- people owed money keep quiet, but continue working for said company.
- people…
Why aren't the biggest Call of Duty/esports publications in the world not covering Scump endorsing the Esports World Cup? What's going on? The story has been out for hours and hours. Very suspect.
@CarlosR
If you don’t understand why a brand would have a billboard like this then you’re not a very good businessman. People are all different shapes and sizes, and their target market is really anyone who can afford to buy their products. It’s brilliant
As the editor-in-chief of ESI, Tom Daniels should know better than to write an article and not have a disclosure on its recent sponsorship at ESI London from Qiddiya and the Saudi Esports Federation, given that these things are directly tied to the Esports World Cup/SEF/PIF fund.
🗞️ We sat down with Ralf Reichert following his departure from the ESL FACEIT Group to discuss the new Esports World Cup Foundation, his role as CEO and how he plans to address community concerns regarding the Saudi event.
My only regret in not winning an Esports Award this year is that I didn't get to tell all the people who supported my endeavor how much that has meant to me, or to say to all the sources and tipsters who had the courage to come forward, thank you. Your trust means EVERYTHING to…

I speak fluent moron; let me translate: “I’m tired of having to pay for sex, not because I am ugly but because stupid things often come out of my mouth and no one wants to be near me.”
It is an honor to be listed among some of the best journalists covering this space in 2023, and of course there are some others like
@callmeprivate

@JFragen_
who didn't make it this year, but are doing great work and deserve some flowers.

Congratulations to

I thanked him privately, but thank you

Well, here's the news I've been hinting at for awhile. Thank you to the leadership and staff at

for having confidence in me to take on this important role. I will do the best job that I possibly can.
I'm putting the finishing touches today on a story I have been working on for several months. You know,
@TEAdvocated
may not be an award-nominated outlet but we have broken some of the biggest esports business stories of 2023 with 0 resources. I'm really proud of that.
Let's say it out loud:
@esportsobserved
is dead. The long running archive site appears to have been taken offline, and it's social media channels have not been active for months. It is a real shame that
@SBJ
doesn't seem to have a plan to maintain the archive. Rest in peace.
I have an interesting and exclusive story coming out either later today or tomorrow involving a certain scholastic esports company. Giving all involved ample time to respond and tell their side.
An interesting nugget from
@ATVI_AB

@overwatchleague
and
@CODLeague

Happy birthday to

The crew at Esports Illustrated have really been kicking a$$, and while some people had jokes when they launched, they have proven many naysayers wrong. It's super important to me to highlight publications that are…
It took a decade or something but I broke 2K followers on this here platform today. It's crazy considering the work i've done this year. While I appreciate the follows, it's all kind of meaningless. All that matters is the work ♥️
I am super excited to announce we have setup an interview with Twitch CEO Dan and Kick CEO Eddie
These will be done separately. Leave your questions below you want answered
@itzFlashey
That very well could be, and as a lawyer friend pointed out, there's always a lot of prose in these kinds of lawsuits with negative adverbs and adjectives.
This may seem like a minor story, but students and coaches across the state trained for this game only to see it get clipped because of a licensing deal.
TEA has learned that the Illinois High School Association (

I loved this interview with

There is also a real concern that

Phase 1 complete of their plan: western teams fully embrace it publicly 👀Lots of bots as well using variations of the same message too. Someone is making some bread today.
I know a lot of people are pouncing on
@esports
right now but it was an honest mistake in trying to get a hot story out quick, and I respect the hell out them. Not upset about this at all ❤️
There's a thing happening where esports journalists (and entire publications, for that matter) are also doing marketing/PR for companies. You really need to disclose these relationships at the writer/publication level so readers know and can make their own determinations.
Sources tell TEA that

BLAST is running Rocket League esports in 2024 — but that news came as a surprise to many in the industry. After all, ESL/FACEIT Group had been vying for the contract for months, and going into the holidays, all signs indicated it would go to EFG.

I am going to say something I shouldn't: I am forcing my peers to work harder and do better work. A guy that has never had a blue check mark or a huge following is making you want to be the best and that's a good thing for this community.

Thank you to every federation that went out of their way to respond to us about this important issue. Putting aside everything else the biggest issue for the esports industry should be "Am I protecting my people from harm while in the region conducting business?"

This is really stand and deliver time for the founders, who said the company was stolen from them. Now that they are in charge, they can show how to do it better... or not. I hope they succeed.
People out here burning bridges with a two week old publication learning its way when they might have to go to them for work at some point. Good luck, hope you got a Twitter pop out if it!

People who write for games sites should always curate their work so that when a site goes offline or their byline is suddenly changed to "staff" they have it for posterity. Sites use "staff" so they can hire people to write and then if they fire them no one knows...rinse, repeat.
