In what little free time I have I like to go swimming, read fantasy books, listen to early 2000s emo and pop punk, and hang out with my dog Ralphie( dog tax attached).

Outside of work I'm mum to these two mini humans which is one of the reasons why I'm not as active on social media anymore. The bigger one currently wants to be an astrophysicist artist, the little one wants to be a fire engine 🤷🏽♀️

In 2019 I made a @BBCRadio4 show with @aliterative and the @SomethinElse team called Stranger Than Sci-Fi that I'm still incredibly proud of. I'm about to feature in a couple of episodes of Secrets of our Universe with @astro_timpeake on @channel5_tv.

By day I'm an Associate Professor in Public Engagement and Outreach at @UoPCosmology @portsmouthuni. My job is basically to take all of the cool astrophysics and cosmology research that my colleagues are doing and share it out with the wider world.

They used a photo of me while they were talking about this on the One Show earlier so I guess the cat's out of the bag - I'm so excited to be in a couple of episodes of @astro_timpeake's #SecretsOfOurUniverse which is airing later this month on Channel 5!

In true Jen fashion, I posted this and then buried my head in the sand when it was more popular than I expected and the replies were overwhelming! Thanks everyone for your kind words, the promotion officially kicked in this week but still doesn't feel real!.
It's been announced in an all-staff email so I guess it's ok to publicly say that I've been promoted and as of September I'll be an Associate Professor in Public Engagement and Outreach 🥳 Feeling grateful that @portsmouthuni recognises non-traditional academic roles like mine!.

It also happens to be my 11 year PhD viva anniversary - at that point I don't think I ever thought I could have built a career out of public engagement (the fun parts of the PhD for me!) but here we are!.

So yeah, big up @ProfTimOB, @_TeresaAnderson and the @bluedotfestival crew for putting on such an epic weekend, particularly given the unbelievably muddy conditions! How do I get invited back next year???.

Plus it was great to see the @ExplorerDome folks and my kiddos loved their show! Although I think the 4 year old would have been pretty content to just spend the entire weekend messing around in the mud. .

I hadn't quite prepared myself for how many science friends I would bump into at @bluedotfestival but it was great to see @SaturnSheila, @jim_wild, @Dr_Lucie, @ProfTimOB, @_TeresaAnderson, @robinince, @alrightPET, @DrDasB, @RobertMMassey & @SciCommRuth. Felt like a huge reunion!.
