Yes & they get defensive and block, terrified of hearing about experiences that differ from theirs. Some work with vulnerable clients yet show no empathy or insight lumping people together as 'antipsychiatry' 'scaremongering', etc. Says more about the name callers than the named.

Past trauma can spark an intense fear of doctors or medical procedures. It's called Iatrophobia, though I would dispute that the fear is irrational. (Hey, you learn something every day).

Thought for the day (or is it night?). What's wrong with dandelions? Why are they looked down upon and labelled 'weeds'? They are beautiful yellow flowers. 🙃.

The belief that emotional pain can be truly recognized/validated only when medicalized via the language of “symptom” and “illness” is the byproduct of a society that has been dispossessed of its ability to make meaning and to care for one another beyond The Institution.

I had the pleasure of meeting the author Marcia Hutchinson yesterday and I bought the very first copy of her novel, The Mercy Step. Looks great, and I can't wait to read it.

I hear psychiatrists speaking against euthanasia who make good points. But if they, as some do, tell patients they've a kind of MI that's incurable and that they must take (debilitating) 'meds' for life, are they surprised if some patients are desperate for euthanasia?.
