The live album captures the moment, being back in Dizzy’s when it was recorded, in June of 2022. Great stuff. Contemporary Focus (Live) https://t.co/Ty0UNFQZdh via @YouTube

. On this album, the horn section work is precise, the rhythm section peerless, and featured solos by Lovano, Henderson, Irby, Turre, Kikoski and White add to the music’s diversity and dynamic. This one is top notch and Cannon’s bass work is always buoyant and in command.

The album includes two Jones compositions, five Tyner compositions and one by Cannon. Cannon’s poignant “Three Elders” is a tribute to Jones, Tyner and the late pianist Larry Willis. Cannon played often with Willis in trumpeter Roy Hargrove’s Band and the two became close friends

Sherman Irby on alto sax, Steve Turre on trombone, Dave Kikoski on piano and Lenny White on the drum kit. Cannon played with drummer Elvin Jones for nine years and with pianist McCoy Tyner for fourteen, so who better can present a knowing tribute to these iconic players?

The respected bassist Gerald Cannon released a fabulous album back in January of 2024 that I am just getting into. Gerald Cannon Live at Dizzy’s Club- The Music of Elvin and McCoy features a stellar band that includes Joe Lovano on tenor sax, Eddie Henderson on trumpet,

Tomaz Stanko feels like an influence. Pohjola’s voice on the instrument can be surprising, modern and refreshing. There is a definitive searching feel to this album, and his bandmates are extraordinarily well-suited to aid him execute his mission.

artist Kit Downes, the Danish bassist Jasper Holby, fellow Finn Olavi Louhivuori on drums and several other contributing musicians. The title refers to a state of mental restlessness and the music certainly has the feel of being driven like a quest. The album opens

Better late than never, but the Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola has caught my attention. I got a chance to recently take a listen to his album Monkey Mind from his November 2023 Edition release. Suffice it to say he is now on my radar. The band includes British keyboard

Bad for Nashville, but great for the metro NY area. The song has a welcoming, funky feel that gets you in the groove. Despite the tornado, there must have been good memories. https://t.co/XqBb9mmHHy via @YouTube

His debut, on Cellar Music from 2023, was a splendid album "Short Stories" featuring Archer's resonant bass, with the creative piano artist Gerald Clayton, and tasteful drummer Bill Stewart. These guys mesh like a fine timepiece. His "Bye Nashville" is Archer's bittersweet
