Elsewhere in today’s @ftweekend.com we have a spiffing salad supplement in which I set out to save the dreary British salad from itself.

For this week’s @ftweekend.com I’m at Mareida, a new restaurant celebrating the food of the Andean South. I swoon over the desserts, enjoy a couple of other dishes but end up worrying whether that’s enough given London’s shorts attention span.

A new Chilean restaurant in London right now should be set for success, and yet. . .

For the week’s @ftweekend I am at Myrtos, a plush new Greek restaurant in South Ken, celebrating great Greek classics while bemoaning an engineered Greek salad that didn’t benefit from being reengineered.

Traumatic salad aside, this is a restaurant full of loveliness

Oooh, the Beeb has re-posted my Listed Londoner interview by Robert Elms, to BBC Sounds. It's almost ten years old but I'm not sure I'd change any of my choices.

For this week’s @ftweekend I am back in Edinburgh suggesting a profound self-care regime at Ardfern, courtesy of their bacon and haggis bun, Arbroath Smokie eggs Benedict, and many other great things besides.

From 2019 - 2022 I presented over 100 episodes of Out To Lunch: interviews with interesting people in top restaurants. Now the BBC has put a load of them on Sounds so you can listen to them ad free. And they've interviewed me about the show.

For @ftweekend I am being a journalist responding to the hot new thing: the rebirth of cult Thai restaurant Singburi. Delicious food, great vibe, but can a unique restaurant in Leyton still be unique in Shoreditch?.

Jay Rayner returns to Green Room by popular demand, for Second Helpings celebrating the greatest jazz-influenced chart hits of the 80s!
Last year, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the Jay Rayner Sextet to Green Room, and it was a night to remember 🎶. It means the world to hear that kind of feedback from our artists 💚 @jayrayner1

Ahead of the festival I’m in Edinburgh for @ftweekend at Moss, a small, intense restaurant using ingredients from close by to make a point which is (mostly) delicious.

This tiny, zealous restaurant is really very good

For this week’s @ftweekend I’m at Shwen Shwen, Maria Bradford’s new restaurant celebrating the earth and fire flavours of Sierra Leone: chicken with palm butter, shrimp with lemongrass gel, moringa cream millefeuille and many other lovely things.

Not only should people go to Maria Bradford’s restaurant, they should go back

Next Thurs the JR Sextet are @pizzaexpresslive Holborn: a few tickets left. We’ve just added songs by Alison Moyet and Fairground Attraction to our dive into the 80s chart hits with jazz in their bones. Hot jazz + cool air conditioning.

Have some pics from today’s review: the bread with dipping gravy, the risotto, the ham and the sage leaves.
Some new restaurant openings are like Big West End shows. All the critics descend and today I’m on duty for @ftweekend at Town by Stevie Parle. It’s a total show stopper, full of dipping gravy, risotto with bone marrow and courgette fritti.

For this week’s @ftweekend restaurant review, I’m talking tip integrity, bia doughs and (almost) the best pizza I’ve ever tried with the rise of Breadstall, on SoHo’s Berwick Street.

Will this be London’s next smash-hit pizza group?

For today’s @ftweekend I am at Berut Bistro which, as the name suggests is a delightful small Lebanese restaurant in London’s Marylebone serving many great dishes including the Beirut Cloud, my dessert of the year so far, and quite possibly beyond.

This lovely Marylebone bistro feels like it was pulled together by thoughtful friends

Very sad news from Manchester. Medlock Canteen was one of the best openings in the city in years. Proof if it were needed of how brutal it is out there for hospitality for now.
This is so sad. A great news addition to Manchester's restaurant scene, but can't survive in this climate. @jayrayner1 rated it, and if this sort of place can't survive what can?

Our JR Sextet June London date, on Tuesday week, is down to the last dozen or so. Meanwhile we're playing at the Marlborough festival next Saturday night. All on the shows page.
Just setting off to for the huge fun of playing Pub In the Park with the sextet. Here's a shot of our first time, when we were still a quartet, back in 2019. Meanwhile our monthly London dates with Pizza Express for June, July and august are now on sale.
