Today is the final day of operation for WarnerMedia as it becomes Warner Bros. Discovery. To mark the occasion, I am taking a moment to share some important things, especially about the WarnerMedia team and the creative partners with which we get to work. 1/x

Before things like Veo 3 got here, I think most people would be blown away by the progress in animatronics (Walt’s current one is below left). But generative AI’s progress has set consumer expectations so high and has in many instances already crossed the uncanny valley.

Lots of people ask about the impact of streaming and cord cutting on future NFL and NBA media rights deals…to better predict future valuations of teams. I don’t think that *really* matters in that teams will be (and are already) valued more like precious works of art.

Netflix revenue: $39B (2024).Warner Bros Discovery revenue: $39B (2024).—.Current Netflix market cap: $549B.Current Warner Bros Discovery market cap: $27B.—.A stark example of stock values = the market’s vote on what it sees happening in the future (specifically wrt FCF).

I like to believe that there had to have beeen an over-confident, scrappy, 5’9” point guard for Apopka High School two years ago asking his coach for the scouting report on their next opponent, promising that he was gonna “lock em down” whoever they were. 🙂🏀

21.6M concurrents for Grow A Garden, 30M concurrents for the Roblox platform. The Roblox engineering team is so darn good at what they do. (🥂as well to @jandelRblx).

Our vision is that Creators don't have to think about infrastructure - it just works at any scale. This includes during some recent record breaking peaks.

Jerry Buss bought the Lakers for $67.5M in 1979 and the team was valued at $10B last week. What is fascinating to me is that parking $67.5M in the S&P500 index fund in 1979 and forgetting about it would equal $12.95B today. Jerry had more fun *and* index funds work. 🙂🏀📈

I think Snoop was railing against the wrong entity in this case, as Spotify hands over 70 cents of every dollar they generate from music streaming to…the music industry (labels mostly). Spotify retains such a small slice…and has gotten 263 million people to pay for music every.

Snoop Dogg has been railing against streaming services like Spotify and YouTube for two years, claiming they don't pay artists enough. But the Doggfather has declared peace with Spotify -- and he explains why. @SnoopDogg .

Sharing observations about licensing library series and movies in the streaming era…and what it can mean for media companies and their valuations. I get asked about this topic a lot (when I am not being asked about naming strategies for streaming services 🎬🙂). In an earlier.

The internet is one of the best things that could have ever “happened” to the New York Times. Their journalism has never been more read, they have never had more paying subscribers, and the market is rightly bullish on their economic future.

The Cursor team rightly describes their service as “it just makes a thing you do every day (coding) better and faster”. It is a fantastic line and also happens to describe the product strategies for many of the most valuable companies on the planet. Amazon (buying things), etc.

Not sure but it seems like Pixar has noticed what OpenAI is doing…

The decision should held by Pixar of course. But if they (Pixar) make it, this is certainly an early window into how generative AI as a business could act like a "new DVD" business line in entertainment.

It isn't hard to see a future where OpenAI remits $0.10 to Pixar for every image they generate from "make this Pixar style" prompts. It will be interesting is to see if that future happens as a result of aggressive litigation, aggressive business development negotiation, or both
