I made this a few months ago. These are the 8 balls you have to hit, this is where you hit them. It’s simple but it’s just a nice visual to help young hitters understand contact points. @nextlevelbb

You know that kid on a 14u team that’s one of the top 4-5 players, but definitely not the best because he’s smaller than everyone else and not shaving yet? Yeah, that guy will end up being the best HS player of the group 90% of the time. I’ve seen it over and over again.

I would bet that 95% of Division one baseball players can do at least 1 of these, 75% can do 2, and at least 50% can do all 3 of them. 1) throw a baseball 90mph (doesn’t have to be off the mound) 2) Run a 6.9 or better. 3)Hit a baseball 400 feet. Don’t kill the messenger.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT BASEBALL PARENTS: when your kid is DH he is in the starting lineup. Actually, and in the Coach’s mind. So when you complain about him “not touching the field” it’s very confusing. Chances are he has the range of a ball bucket anyways. @nextlevelbb

I was a .380 hitter in college and a .233 hitter in pro ball. I get asked what was the biggest difference? Sure pitching was better Sure I was swinging wood BUT the biggest difference: the DEFENSE! 6 hole chopper-out Blooper in the triangle-caught Missile in the gap-caught

How 95% of recruiting works: 1. A coach calls people he TRUSTS and says: “Any guys in that area this year? Or “I’m looking for a guy that can do XYZ” OR: 2. TRUSTED coach calls college coaches and says: “I’ve got a guy that can do XYZ, any interest?” @nextlevelbb

Not being able to hit “slow” pitching because it’s “too slow” doesn’t mean your some great hitter with electric hands. It means you can’t/haven’t learned to make adjustments.

Today a college kid swung at a 57 foot changeup: “Did it look like I’m getting out on my front foot a little bit??” We are dealing with a generation of hitters that think hitting is 99% swing mechanics, they were taught by self proclaimed experts who played one year of JUCO.

There isn’t a good program in the country regardless of division that doesn’t have guys on the bench nipping at the starters heels. It doesn’t just make guys perform better it also forces but in! Don’t wanna do it our way? That’s fine take a seat.

This is just a rough estimate, and there are other factors, but this is why you don’t want to hit a lot of fly balls off the tee, flips , etc. Hard line drives off tee and flips are 2Bs and Hr’s vs velo. This is why your coach busts your balls in bp everyday lol @nextlevelbb

I saw where coach @CoachMongero was doing a piece on this. I say this ALL the time. It’s a matter if the player can hold on long enough to see the other side. It’s frustrating as hell for 12-16 Y/O that work and have talent, but are simply over powered during these years.

I want to tell you about one of the best coaches in the country @rhennon10 was a mentor to me and today a friend. I owe so much to this man. I’m an Eagle for life. He’s surrounded himself with winners and a staff that’s second to none. @CoachBeck24 @AJ_Battisto

Then I said you just do light upper body and no overhead stuff? He said, “No I do it all!! Then I stretch it all back out long tossing.” Regardless your opinion, that’s what a 20 year old that’s added 30 lbs and 10 mph to his fastball in 2 years told me.

Guys that graduate at 17: They won’t have tons of opportunities, but it only takes one. Not immediate impact guys, but in a couple years may come on strong. You can find some real DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH if you evaluate these guys through a slightly different lens. @nextlevelbb

Guys that TRULY love the game don’t have to be asked/told to work hard/get extra work by teammates, coaches, and parents In fact they are the ones that can’t get enough.

Kids need to understand that winning a job, or earning playing time in college is one of the more difficult things you will have to do as a player. And even then it’s a day to day situation. All state, all county, even drafted guys waiting on you to slip…….

Problem is, everyone lies about how much money they are on, if any, which creates false expectations for younger players and their parents.

“Hating to lose” is not a positive quality unless it’s channeled correctly. It’s not about getting in the worst mood, having the longest face, pointing fingers or bitching at team mates. Be careful when talking to young players about what “hating to lose” should look like.
