I work in health and often there are similar challenges which we use behavioral techniques to try and overcome. Gamification.- Measure how much people do the thing you want them to try - FSD miles driven is buried in the app and should be front and center.- Reward people for.

FSD can leave you embarrassed.- Purely social situations in FSD aren’t handled well.- Feeling embarrassed by cutting off a car, an extra long 'full stop', or dealing with road ragers - FSD is not equipped to deal with these situations yet.

Starting FSD is high friction.- Searching and setting a destination is a chore.- Most drives are local - why search for a route to the grocery store only 1.5m away?.- You can’t just start FSD and then guide it to where you want to go the way you would as a passenger.

On the other hand, there are obvious benefits to driving which block users from feeling the need for FSD.- I can see stopped traffic on the highway far sooner than FSD allowing me to slow down sooner and feel safer.- I can change my driving style on a whim - without any input to.

So on one hand, there are non-obvious benefits or delayed benefits to FSD. - I can look around and be more aware of my surroundings - nice on a scenic trip but a little too zen for a primary reason.- It’s safer by 10x - But most people already feel safe in the car or else they.

“A personal chauffeur” is often cited, but this is not compelling since no one has a chauffeur on the payroll today that needs replacement.

FSD on the other hand makes the drive mundane or boring. It’s handing over control and that’s hard to do considering the upside is boring and the downside is terrifying.

For a Tesla the core task is to charge and drive - and people love it. That’s enough. Pressing that accelerator hard gives instant feedback loop to reinforce their purchase. It’s just damn fun to drive and FSD/autopilot simply doesn’t make the car more fun.

First, I do product design for a living and have a pretty deep appreciation for users who simply don’t want to try new things. I designed drones that featured very sophisticated autonomy and they failed for the same reasons.

I was not surprised to hear Elon say 50% of people have never even tried or enabled FSD. I’d like to highlight some theories why. @WholeMarsBlog @Tesla @elonmusk.

I remember sending my Arducopter drone all the way across San Francisco autonomously and chasing it in a car – it was a nail biter. So thrilling to see your creation travel on it's own!.

The first fully autonomous delivery of a Tesla Model Y from factory to a customer home across town, including highways, was just completed a day ahead of schedule!!. Congratulations to the @Tesla_AI teams, both software & AI chip design!.

Basically a GPS denied area like the airfield couldn’t stand a chance with optical flow and image recognition. I’m a little surprised we’re not seeing more of this companion computer strategy. It’s complex but we were doing it 10 years ago in a consumer drone.

In the 3DR Solo we used a Linux computer running on an IMX6 that took in the HDMI video and streamed it. This board could control the drone itself and do things like computer vision and GPS augmentation using optical flow.

A few things I noticed from the videos of Ukraine striking the bombers. GPS was used when available. Auto mission to get to the spot and position hold to do a guided decent. These were highly accurate. The link latency must have been 2-3 seconds making manual flight very.
