I’m def NOT a rescue expert, but throwing packed bottles & (I’m guessing) food-grains like this seems stupid. If most of that is not already damaged upon impact, even salvaging the rest from floodwaters is going to be a task!.Punjab govt needs to do more.

Beas is collecting the toll now, the river is claiming back its land. Visuals from Raison toll near Manali where the road is gone and the Beas now flows through the toll plaza. Sun is out today but rains are expected to be back soon.

Climatic impacts of suspending Indus Waters Treaty will be far worse than benefits of any energy produced by the water thus saved. India needs a robust environmental policy, not political dog-whistling and chest-thumping in the name of climate action.

Messing around with natural paths of rivers has long troubled us. Look at what we have done to the Himalayas — J&K, Himachal, U’khand devastated by floods every monsoon. Same will happen with the Indus Valley. A river never forgets its path, and it knows no political boundaries.

Centre wants Indus Waters for Rajasthan and Haryana only as long as they remain calm. The moment the rivers flood, it becomes Punjab’s problem — on both sides of the border. That’s why per Riparian Laws, people with first right on waters are the ones who face its wrath the most.
