It hangs on the whole parliament, each member has equal rights and say. It’s hard to see an easy way out of this for Humza and more difficult to see who within his ranks would command a majority. The tribal nature of Holyrood is today its saviour and failure in equal measures. 🧐

Apparently Humza Yousaf was delivered an ultimatum:
“They go (Greens) or you go!”
The vultures are circling, the status quo cannot continue, the First Minister will struggle to rule a fragile minority.
After 3 long years in Holyrood things may just have become interesting.

Anyone over excited by the prospect of the end of Bute House Agreement should know the Greens will still wave through government motions, bills and amendments for the next two years at Holyrood, unless there’s an early election or they discover a backbone. I hold out for neither

Today the Scottish Government was able to progress its proposed changes to our legal system. Despite a rebellion within its ranks.
The abolition of

verdict and changes to jury sizes and majority are undoubtedly controversial.

The massive year long Bill narrowly made it past stage 1. 62 MSPs abstained to 60 in favour. Had they all voted against it (they wouldn’t) it would have fallen and gone back to the drawing board.
Interesting SNP rebellion.
This would never have happened under Nicola Sturgeon.

But sometimes governments just make bad law. Well-meaning, poorly implemented.
The Hate Crime Act is an example of Holyrood just not listening.

I lived in Sydney for a year and spent many a Saturday afternoon wandering around Westfield Bondi with pals. This is just the saddest and most horrendous thing to happen. Thinking of my friends back in Oz today, and those affected by this horror.

More taxpayer funded propaganda from the supposedly neutral civil service in Scotland. (Incidentally, Scottish civil servants are part of the UK civil service). Repeated complaints to the Permanant Secretary reaps little more than a letter back. The Civil Service Code is clear:
An independent Scotland could ensure children’s human rights are upheld, protected and respected.
We would have the opportunity to fully incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child into Scots law.

There’s so much here to unpick. Public body execs with unlimited credit cards, senior directors knowingly breaking rules, the Board ignores it, Audit Scotland smells something fishy and investigates. The CEO resigns with a huge ££ goodbye. Incredible.
