I’m happy to be back with 4 of my favorite institutions in the United States! I have deep musical memories with all of these companies, and it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to continue to grow and make new ones together.

What a pleasure it has been to lead @LesArtsValencia. This past Thursday was my final concert as Music Director and the orchestra got me a custom-made caricature from a famous designer for Las Fallas de Valencia, complete with my red sneakers and a paella pan ☺️☺️

What a fun week with the extraordinary Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks! I love this orchestra, and I finally got to work with the brilliant Janine Jansen.

I responded, “Sadly not.” However, it doesn’t have to be this way. William Grant Still has so much great repertoire, and we should share his works more in the US. I would strongly encourage American orchestras to regularly program his music so that he is not forgotten.

The passion and sincerity with which the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks is playing William Grant Still’s music is immense, and my concertmaster at the BRSO said, “What a brilliant composer … of course you must play a lot of his music in the US.”
