Painted on the Apartheid Wall in Qalqilya, a hand grows from the earth as if a tree. The chains that attempt to constrain the hand/tree are broken by its growth. The Palestinian body and land are depicted as one here, as they work to tear down the structures of colonisation 1/

The hand/tree grows to tear down the Wall, as one finger/branch rips through it from the top. The sky pours through the crack it creates, providing sunlight that will strengthen the tree to grow. Balancing on one finger is a key—symbolising the return to Palestine 2/

Given its location in Qalqilya—a city entirely surrounded by the Apartheid Wall—this is a particularly powerful refusal of the dominating power of the Wall, which is ultimately destroyed by the Palestinian hand/tree that emerges from the land 3/3
