Then in Vadodara we stayed at a 5star grand mercure. Hotel was good and we ordered room service, pad Thai which both my son and I ate. At 2 am, I woke up feeling uneasy and he also woke up at the same time, both threw up the dinner. One day of vacation was gone.

I called our previous hotel, the one decent one to see if there was a chance of a last minute cancellation but no success. The driver said will arrange and got us something for 2k. It was literally just a bed and 1’ of space on the side.

It was the Christmas time absolute peak so nothing was available. I found something on booking for 6K. We had hired a taxi from Bhuj so the guy took us there after visiting the white rann. It was literally a hut next to a cowshed. Luckily it was pay at property so we walked away.

My worst hotel experience was in Bhuj. We had booked the tent at Rann paying a hefty amount well in advance but a month prior they just called and told us that booking is cancelled due to a government event and offered us an alternate in Dholavira.

Indian hotels are really a hit or miss. I’ve had really good hotels where I paid just 1000₹ a night in kasargod and Mangalore. But sometimes a 3k hotel can be disappointing. If I’m going with family, it’s only club Mahindra or a 3/4 star or an Airbnb with good reviews.

Watching the Vuelta and it is passing by a town in Italy called Cuneo. A town with a population of 50000 and it looks 10x better than any of our cities.

The really encouraging part is that I did 7 out of 10 rides on my hybrid. With it's 40c tyres is going to be my bike of choice, I have to decide if I even want to keep my road bike.

I would start at around 6:00 am and return back between 12-1pm. I used to be able to do a century in a bit over 4 hours but the route, headwinds and elevation pushed it to close to 5 hours.

Completed the challenge. Ngl, it was one of the more difficult ones. While a distance of 50-60 km is easily done, anything beyond that takes over 4 hours required some eating in between. So though the riding time was around 52 hours for around 1050 km still took 67 hours

My next challenge is the Tour de 100, 100 days of cycling starting September mid. However, it is a lot easier as it ramps up and the typical distance is 50-60 km which means I can easily get a ride in and be home for breakfast. There are 3-4 stretch days but that's doable.

I have ridden a 100 in around 4 hours, but because of the route I've taken (Shoolagiri), and my choice to use my hybrid bike, it has almost 700-800m of climbing and it has taken close to 5 hours. Yesterday, did it on my road bike, pushed a bit and completed it in 4:30.
