Most recently, a few of the saws were used to make a tangible difference on the farm of Ms. Linda Gabbidon in Mount Prospect, St. Andrew. Following the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa, sections of her farm were left inaccessible due to fallen trees and heavy debris.

#JACRANews: The chainsaws provided by the Government of Japan through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) are already making a meaningful impact on farms across the Blue Mountains—helping to accelerate recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

Yesterday, our team met with the Advisory Services team @jacraofficial at their Kgn HQ, to discuss solutions aimed at improving soil health and strengthening agricultural productivity across the sector. 🌱🤝

JACRA remains committed to standing with our cocoa farmers — not just in planting, but in training, technical support, and long-term sector development. As we continue to rehabilitate the cocoa industry, our focus remains clear: securing the future of Jamaica’s cocoa sector.

This planting activity forms part of our wider strategy to restore cocoa production through improved planting material, stronger yields, and increased resilience on farms. Step by step, we are laying the foundation for a stronger future for Jamaican cocoa.

Under the theme “Rooted in Recovery: Rebuilding Together,” JACRA led a replanting initiative at Guava Ridge, St. Andrew, bringing government leaders, industry partners, and farmers together to plant coffee seedlings and support recovery following the impact of Hurricane Melissa.
