Unfortunately, my time at WKMG News 6 has come to a close. I was part of a workforce reduction yesterday. I’m now available for any freelance photography, video, or video‑editing projects. Onward and upward!

So, off I went to my car to take a nap because traffic home would be unbearable still. It was hours later that I heard the news, and it didn’t seem real. It still doesn’t. #NASCAR #Daytona500 #DaleEarnhardt

I walked back to where the media was hard at work after the race and handed my camera's card off to the photo editors. The room we shared with the AP was pretty small and they didn’t like too many people hanging around in there.

The crash didn't seem too bad, after all. But every time we tried to get a photo of his car, a different track or emergency vehicle blocked our site. That's when I thought it could be bad, but not as bad as it turned out.

The number of photogs on that turn had dwindled quite a bit throughout the day, probably so they could run to Victory Lane and get the race winner celebrating. Afterwards, I thought I would get a few photos of Dale Earnhardt waving to the crowd after climbing out of his car.

I remember listening on the radio as they described Tony Stewart's crash on the back stretch, thinking that would be the crash and story of the day. Then the crash happened on the last lap, it felt like slow motion.

Of course, I said Turn 4, that's where everything happens, especially on the last lap, being the last turn before the finish line. I'm from Daytona Beach, I've seen it happen 100 times.

At the track, I remember someone on the Sentinel team giving assignments on which part of the track to cover and they asked me where I wanted to be. I felt pretty honored because I was only a photo tech at that point.

How has it been 25 years since that fateful Daytona 500? I still remember leaving my apartment in Altamonte Springs on Feb. 18, 2001, so early to beat traffic that my neighbors were still up, chatting on their patio as if the night hadn’t ended yet.

Orlando Magic forward Moe Wagner will make his season debut in Sunday's home game against the New Orleans Pelicans, sources tell ESPN. Wagner was a Sixth Man of the Year candidate a season ago prior to his torn ACL last December, averaging 12.9 PPG and 5.9 RPG. Key return.

She called for help and even helped pull the dolphin from the water. I reached out, sent her a message, and eventually connected with her by phone. I’m glad I did. There’s so much more to this story. https://t.co/CavYkhJcRR

A serendipitous encounter between a professional photographer and a jogger helped rescue a baby male dolphin near the jetty in New Smyrna Beach on Wednesday morning after the animal was being found...

The initial details were sparse — just enough to write a quick brief and move on to the next thousand things on the list. I had a feeling there was something more. I came across a Facebook post from a woman who said a jogger alerted her to the stranded calf.

Sometimes a story opens up in unexpected ways when you slow down and look a little deeper. Today we learned a distressed baby dolphin had been found in New Smyrna Beach and taken to SeaWorld for care.
