Sen. Susan Collins isn't thrilled with OMB Director Russell Vought on stopgap funding work. OMB still hasn't sent a list of proposed changes to funding levels in a CR, but promised to send it soon. Is there a problem with the CR? "With OMB, one never knows," Collins says.

The White House is interested in a stopgap to fund the government into 2026 -- two months longer than the November deadline proposed by lawmakers. w/ @gregorykorte: https://t.co/8F5iszw2c8

White House officials want a stopgap bill to fund the government into 2026, a plan that conflicts with a shorter runway being discussed by lawmakers in both parties.

There's a strong chance of a shutdown. Trump's "pocket rescission" did not help the mood on Capitol Hill. Rep. Rosa DeLauro called it "a slap in the face." She wants a funding deal that backs "the power of the purse of the Congress, and not that damn fool Russ Vought."

Cole will need buy-in from leaders to make it happen. But one of the upsides is that those three approps bills are small enough so that they don't need a universal top-line spending agreement beforehand, he says.

In today's BGOV budget brief: The worst-case scenario for September is clear: a shutdown. Rep. Tom Cole is pitching a best-case scenario: a three-bill funding package (Ag-FDA, Leg Branch, MilCon-VA) with a stopgap running no later than Thanksgiving.

Rep. Thomas Massie says โthere will definitely be Republicans who sign onโ to his Epstein resolution. Speaker Mike Johnson just said everything Massie says related to this issue is โmeaninglessโ (a response to Massie calling the leadership resolution meaningless)

Congress has less than a month to strike a bipartisan funding deal and avoid an Oct. 1 shutdown, a task complicated by the increasing animosity between the White House and Capitol Hill. @jackfitzdc breaks down the next month in Congress: https://t.co/CZ4OIpzHtb

Schumer and Jeffries ask Thune and Johnson for a plan to strike a bipartisan deal on funding. They sent letter Aug. 4 requesting a meeting on spending. Today's press release linking to this letter says Republicans didn't respond to that request. https://t.co/rt4EKPdFjt

@liampatquinn CBO - Congress's office of budget analysts, led by a former Bush admin Treasury official - says new tariffs since January would cut the deficit by $4 trillion over the next decade, if in place for that long.

Trump's response to CBO report on tariff revenue, per pooler @liampatquinn: "I was very happy today that the group that does this, a government group, radical left group, announced that Trump was right about something. $4 trillion worth of tariffs."

MPD community relations not looking positive: MPD impounded two mopeds at 13th and Shepherd St NW this afternoon. A group of about 10 people yelled at them for coordinating with ICE. Cops yelled back that the moped impoundment push has been happening for a year and is unrelated.

Vote time is TBD. Ag-FDA and MilCon-VA will be batched together in one vote and Leg Branch will be voted on separately, though it all ends up in one package. 10 amendments made in order for votes.

Senators are following through on the plan to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. After rescinding old funds, now the Senate's fiscal 2026 funding bill does not include any money for the CPB, Sen. Patty Murray says. Calls the defunding of CPB "a shameful reality."
