When I got to my office, it looked like the lizard from Barcelona's Parc Güell was about to eat its way through a series of French presidents. De Gaulle looked to be particularly at risk.

"Kieran, six and a half years from now the ball's going to arrive at your feet 25 yards from goal during injury time of a crucial World Cup qualifier. Stay calm, curl it into the bottom corner and we'll be off to the World Cup for the first time since I left school in the 90s."

What a goal and what a night. I was still at school last time the Scotland men's team qualified for the World Cup. I am now balding and in the second half of my forties. But *very* happy. 🏴⚽

From the streets of Brussels to cafés in Bragança, plazas in Elche to bars in Pristina, every language I’ve learned has opened a new world, a new way of seeing and belonging. University language departments provide a key to those worlds. Let’s keep as many doors open as possible.

Enjoyed reading this article about a German art museum where visitors are shown round by a performance artist who plays the role of a grumpy guide https://t.co/1e6mkoqGB2

Really identify with what US economist Richard E. Thaler says about joys of doing academic research in his book 'Misbehaving: the Making of Behavioral Economics'. He talks of "the freedom to think about almost anything I find interesting and still get to call it work".

Enjoyed another visit to the National @FootballMuseum in Manchester this week, especially their exhibition Black in the Game. It tells fascinating story of the history of players of black heritage in UK football.
