teaching is a sacred profession not bc of educators being martyrs (we’re not) or saviors (we should never be) but bc of its proximity to children, who are the most sacred things on this damn planet

Wild to see ppl get mad that the world has seemingly forgotten about a bloody ear when the same ppl could not care less about children getting murdered in schools. The cognitive dissonance would be impressive if it weren’t so repugnant.

There needs to be more of a middle ground between no tolerance and no consequences. Because schools are not thriving.

“Giving teachers an opportunity” is code for expecting teachers to do even more. My district is giving teachers the opportunity to earn some extra money by driving buses and having us serve as custodial staff.

The phrase "build relationships" is being weaponized to place blame on Ts instead of the conditions nurturing problematic behaviors in schools. I'm thinking of reconsidering it to "building trust..." It shows it's a process, complex, and it feels more authentic.

Today, I understand why some teachers give up. The kids don’t care because the adults don’t care because the state doesn’t care because the country doesn’t care and it’s really hard to be the only person who cares.

There is absolutely a problem if a trans child tells their teachers, their friends, and everybody but their parents about their identity. What parents who want teachers to out trans kids refuse to acknowledge is that they *are* the problem.

I will always, always find a way to blame: Jefferson Reagan capitalism for anything. I could give a TED talk on my favorite brand of mascara and end up frothing at the mouth over A Nation at Risk.

Carolyn Brant’s legacy is alive and well in the spirit of racist white women today. No one plays a victim quicker. I have a lot of words for it but the only professional one I can think of is repugnant.

Now more than ever, it is absolutely imperative for allies to show up for the trans kids and teachers in your lives. Not just in Florida but everywhere.

I have a former friend who got away w/ treating ppl badly bc of his mental health & trauma. When I called him out once, his response was “that’s not how this works.” They know exactly what they’re doing. And he’s a BCPS teacher 🙃

I do not care what the founding fathers wanted, and I hope if I met them today they would hate me.

Much like the founding fathers, I choose to put my faith in people rather than institutions. Much like the founding fathers, I benefit from white supremacy. Much like the founding fathers, I hope to see institutions topple and burn - specifically, the ones they built.

all you need to know about cops in schools is that it started as a response to school integration

God bless culturally responsive teacher educators. Some of these teachers and teacher candidates are intentionally obtuse and dangerous.
