Lovely calligraphy from the famous “Pink Qur’an”, made in 13th-century Spain.

فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ بَصِيرًۢا

“Surely God is All-Seeing of His servants.” — Qur’an 35:45

This is in the anthology Muʿjam al-shuʿarāʾ by Abū ʿUbaydallāh al-Marzubānī (d. 994) and in many other books.

ربما تجزع النفوس من الامر له فرجه كحل العقال

The poets used to say: “A situation may leave souls in distress, but there is a way out, just as knots can unravel.”

قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

Say: ‘Travel through the earth and see how the evildoers ended up.’ — Qur’an 27:69

This is from Nahj al-balāgha, the famed collection of material attributed to ʿAlī, compiled by al-Sharīf al-Raḍī (d. 1015).

وأحسن كما تحب أن يحسن إليك

“Do good to others, just as you would want them to do good to you.” — ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُم بِمَا صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ

“Peace be upon you for your patience and perseverence.” — part of a heavenly greeting in Qur’an 13:24

This old line of poetry is quoted in the book of proverbs collected by Abu ‘Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam (d. 838) and in many other sources afterward. 

إذا وترت أمراً فأحذر عداوته من يزرع الشوك لا يحصد به عنبا

“If you wrong someone, fear the sting of their hatred. For whoever plants thorns will not harvest grapes.” — an old Arab proverb

This is a rhyme in Arabic so that’s why the second part may be a bit hard to parse. The implication is that action done without knowledge yields no results, is futile, etc.
