Yall in 3 days
"why do we hate her again?"
"She literally ate this"
"I'm sorry I have to stan"
"She's awful but at least she's funny"
"Yall can't make me hate her I'm sorry"
This country is a joke. I'm happy they're taking action but it should not have taken a famous white woman to do that. Xochitl Gomez shared a story weeks prior about this and she's literally a minor. Everyday civilian woman have been bringing this up for months.
The White House says the sexually-explicit AI images of Taylor Swift are ‘alarming’ and that Congress should take legislative action to address fake abusive images online.
“We are alarmed by the circulation of the false images,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters.
Modern msogyny is so terrifying cuz Katara was definitely a fan favorite until someone decided in 2020 to degrade her for having realistic responses to her grief
And she is absolutely right. She lost to Jamie Lee Curtis who's role in Everything Everywhere wasn't even remotely the highlight performance of that movie
Angela Bassett says she was gobsmacked when she lost the Oscar for ‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER’.
“I thought I handled it very well… It was, of course, a supreme disappointment, and disappointment is human”

"Brownwashing/blackwashing is just as bad as whitewashing"
There are people that think Wanda Maximoff is supposed to be a white woman, and are completely unaware that she was intended to be a brown Romani Woman.
Meanwhile "Black Ariel" will always be...Black Ariel
I saw a tweet like yesterday about how Katara is adultified in the fandom and its really true. Her being "motherly" is not her only character trait. She is often just as childish, naive and immature as the others at times.
Framestore's VFX breakdown for the live-action One Piece series showcases a range of effects, but Luffy's body-stretching powers are great fun

There's a lot more to it than this. There's shape language, volume, length and color coordination that justifies why Pav's hair compliments the rest of his spiderman outfit while Miles' hair is just ONE of the many problems of his new suit
Is it just me or does it feel like there's always a missing member in Scooby Doo, it feels like we live in a fucked up alternative timeline where one of the members just doesn't exist when they should
It's crazy that in the west we go on and on about how smartphones and tablets and all this technology are "ruining" us and "killing our children/future generation". But in Congo, the pursuit of this technology is ACTUALLY ruining lives and killing children.
One of this shows greatest sins is its impatience. Azula and friends, Wan Shi Tong, the secret tunnel, Zuko having a "good" relationship with Iroh, these are things that don't exist until the later seasons but are shoehorned into season 1
RUMOR: The Power Rangers might be coming to Fortnite soon 👀
This was mentioned by
@Shpeshal_Nick
on the
@xboxera
podcast yesterday. The same person has also leaked the Doom Slayer & TMNT collabs long ago!
(Thanks to
@BlackGokuNews
for sending me a DM about this!)
"Katara was Aang's mother figure"
"Azula wasn't a villain"
"Katara didn't wanna be a healer"
"It's Aangs fault the Air Nomads are dead"
"Korra destroyed the Avatar cycle"
@wrongsiderwill
She is (was) dating a groomer/abuser, insulted and blocked his victims when they tried to let her know about, and was wearing a shirt with a neo nazi slapped onto it literally this last week
Black girls and girls of color have never had a problem relating to characters who don't look like them because 9 times out of 10, they didn't have many options to do so otherwise.
The most exhausting part of the discourse for me is when they hit us with the "mAke YoUr oWn bLAcK ChaRaCteRs" when this is how they respond to original black characters
The whitewashing and “blackwashing” discourse only reminds me again of why black people simply can’t have anything or exist in peace without somehow being controversial, simply for living.
The reaction to the One Piece Live Action VS the reaction to the Avatar Live Action is a perfect example of what happens when something is made in love and reverence for the source and when something is made to “elevate it to a superior art form”
Whitewashing has historically damaged the perception of black people and people of color in a way that "blackwashing" & "racebending" will never affect white people. Ariel being black in a culture where there is an infinite abundance of predominantly white media is not a threat.
Making the tattoos have these interesting symbols that form an "Arrow" mightve been hard to replicate season by season, episode by episode, but I think they're a smart change for live action and makes his design a lot more interesting
I'm tired of diversity being blamed for mediocrity.
The current state of the MCU suffers because not only are these new stories often poorly told, they are barely connected. The previous phases had flaws but at least it's installments felt like puzzle pieces to a bigger picture.
This week’s Variety cover story:
Crisis at Marvel: Jonathan Majors Back-Up Plans, 'The Marvels' Reshoots, Reviving Original Avengers and More Issues Revealed
There are thousands upon thousands of white characters made to entertain audiences and black characters & characters of color are limited in comparison.
@Weedbrownii
Literally the plot of the movie is ALL of the characters reconnecting with their roots and heritage....IN AFRICA 😭 Yes their animals and 2 of them are voiced by white men but in the context of the story they're indigenous to Africa and reconnecting with that heritage
They've been able to relate to mutant turtles, wookies, and little mermaids even if they didn't look like them because that's what happens when you have empathy.
Making one or two white characters non white is like taking a drop of water from the ocean. But making black characters or characters of color white? That's erasing the little representation we actually get....
It's just so interesting how yall can pick and choose when to "cancel" your idols. She was mocking victims and standing by her abusive boyfriend months ago in broad daylight and that still wasn't enough to convince you she's weird
Like it just baffles me. "What if we made Tiana white 🤓" the ONLY black Disney princess. Yall have Merida, Repunzel, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jane, Tinkerbell (and her friend group excluding the 2 ethnic fairies) Elsa AND Anna....
Colorism and whitewashing has affected comics for years and still does. X 23 first appeared in X Men evolution as a brown skinned Indigenous character but has been illustrated with lighter skin since she hit comics.
I feel like I live in a alternate universe the way yall talk about old "kids shows". Yes there were dark moments and darker tones, yes they were made for kids, yes that's totally fine.
Sunspot has been made lighter on and off in comics despite his comic origin being the result of a racially charged hate crime because he had darker skin.
@JayJurden
This movie is 1000× funnier when you're thinking about how these characters are related in the comics. Mystique making fun of her own son's accent, laughing at her adopted daughter's haircut 😭😭😭
The same phenomenon happened with America Chavez in Multiverse of Madness, another Afro Puerto Rican character, played by a lighter actress (no disrespect to Xochitl Gomez tho we love her we mad at the higher ups OK)
i will never understand the hate for the legend of korra. okay maybe book 2 was mid but overall, the show was really good.
korra recovering her mental health and reflecting on her journey is one of the best moments in the avatar universe.
In New mutants, the director avoided casting a darker skinned actor wanted someone who "looked rich". Josh Boone stated
"I wanted to find somebody who seems like he could look like a guy who’s had the silver spoon in his mouth"
@NyetAgain
Not really. People can relate to characters who don't reflect their ethnic or gender identity and people can also NOT relate to characters who do reflect those identities.
Representation can be a factor of relatability but it doesn't make the full circle.
@Art0616D
I haven't watched the show in a while but I don't think Todoroki and Bakugou ARENT interesting, I just think Ida and Uraraka would've had a better dynamic with Deku on the regular. Todoroki and Bakugou are cool alone but they don't make for a fun trio dynamic
