So. Today is my pub day. I started reporting this book in 2016 (though I didn't know it would be a book then) and started writing it in 2019. Books are described as solitary processes but for me - beyond fortunately - I had an entire village worth of support.

Please read RFA's special report on the Prince Group published last year - https://t.co/adBGVjtBPy It's hard to believe these sanctions would have happened were it not for this type of brave and dogged reporting

Our three part investigative series reveals a concerning blend of improbable business ventures, alleged criminality and political cronyism — charges the Prince Group denies.

I can't get over what a huge deal these US sanctions on Prince Group are. Every story @jackoozell and @RadioFreeAsia wrote got the same denial - if any wrongdoing took place, it had nothing to do with Chen Zhi. This shows how patently false that defense is

Beyond thrilled that a story I edited last year by the incomparable @instupor and colleagues in the RFA Burmese service has just won the Edward R Murrow Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:

A couple of words about Israel's assassination of the top broadcast journalist in Gaza, Anas al-Sharif. 1. Israel has now stopped pretending journos are "collateral damage," or hastily smearing them after a kill. This murder is claimed loudly and proudly by IDF spox.

This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. First, peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings. Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my

As the Trump administration works to dismantle VOA, RFE/RL and RFA, I'm thinking about our 10 journalists who are imprisoned around the world for doing their jobs. Journalism is not a crime. Here’s a thread on their cases.

It’s been a very tumultuous 24 hours but the most harrowing thing is that many of my colleagues at Radio Free Asia who risk their lives and have sat in prison for daring to report on authoritarian regimes are at grave risk. Please raise awareness:

Just want to add my voice to the chorus pronouncing Gerry's expulsion from Cambodia a real shame and a genuine loss to the country's much-needed environmental journalism. Hopefully the government reverses this embarrassing decision soon and Gerry can get back to work!
Asking as a journalist, can someone in the Cambodian government tell me which one it is, teacher or electrician? Feels like the cover story might be blown. https://t.co/AGm6RQgmRm

It's very disturbing to see the situation devolve to the point where journalists are denied entry for unclear reasons. I hope this will change.

"I will never send my child far away from me. The pain of separation is something that lingers in your soul, until the moment you can be finally reunited." Incredibly moving piece from my colleague @logyal143 on being smuggled out of Tibet as a child https://t.co/Deq27MDzSY

Really quite emblematic of the disparity of wealth and desperation of people right now in Cambodia. Tycoons like Sok Kong project that people are doing well and the country is developing, while their handouts leads to people dying in a crowd crush for a little extra income.
Outside the home of tycoon Sok Kong, at least three people died after fainting while waiting to receive Hongbao. Sok Kong gives Hongbao every year for Chinese New Year.

Father François Ponchaud passed away today. He rang the bell about the Khmer Rouge exactions in his book ‘Cambodge Année Zéro’, published in 1977. I was privileged to photograph him working in his beloved Cambodia: https://t.co/dXgHBNbBwZ

Because they enable other people to exploit undocumented people and their kids and families. Domestic abusers, employers, bullies at school, cops, etc. Merely *accusing* someone of something now gets them detained indefinitely no matter what.

We were all lucky enough to benefit from a nonfiction fellowship that is no more, due to funding issues, but I think publications like these, five years on, show the major and ongoing(!) impact of these types of programs
