More than veg/non-veg, it is whether the food is satvik or not. onions/garlics are forbidden for some people. Even those who eat them on normal days will not even touch them during vratas or important dates

In my area(bengal) many lower caste people have taken initiation into vaishnavism( and prefer only sattvic food..they don't eat with meat eater people including many brahmins..now I wonder who is oppressed and who is oppressor here.
