'Popular' Catholicism and Afro-derived cults equally despised in Latin America, South Africa etc - all tend to be highly ritualistic. German, French etc philosophy, structuralism etc are in contrast much beloved by sectors of elite and 'intellectuals'.

Nobody listens to Hindus because Hindus are full of self doubt. I have seen Thai Monks speak about Hinduism and India with more conviction than any Indian Hindu. "India is the motherland" says the monk. Vivekananda perhaps only exception.
