@indy44 But… if the tether is what keeps the tire attached to the car, and the tire become detached from the car… how is that not a failure?

@indy44 I’m not an engineer but if the tether didn’t “tether” doesn’t that mean it failed?😂

@indy44 Being an inquisitive gear head, I would like to see how the tether works.

@indy44 So this is starting to sound like that thing took whatever the tethers are connected to with it

@indy44 I'm guessing whatever the tether was connected to failed.

@indy44 @Chad__15 Hub or wheel failure I’m thinking.

@indy44 I don't understand how it happened if the teather didn't fail

@indy44 Like the red flag, IndyCar short on details.

@indy44 Sheered the wheel off the hub. Tether holds the hub, not the wheel. Truly a freak accident and so fortunate nobody was hit.

@indy44 In fact it indeed failed to tether to the car.

@indy44 So did they attach a 300 foot, invisible, non-existent tether to the wheel or sumn??

@indy44 When someone says "isolated incident" it suggests human error to me. I'd look into the tether installation. I know nothing about this chassis, but looking at another Dallara chassis it talks about making sure the tether is installed with bobbins in place.

@indy44 But common, some forces in the accidents are basically impossible to prevent 100%, it’s rare that tire flying at all in accidents and even more rare to see tire flying over the fences.

@indy44 This is what you get when either 1) no one sends your text back for revision to add the part that actually explains what happened before posting; or 2) the lawyers read it and said "Take out the part that actually explains what happened so we won't get sued."

@indy44 I guess there is a difference between a specific part that failed, and that a failure occured that made the purpose of that part redundant. Just a silly thing to say and read in isolation.
