12-light setup targeted to augment existing photogrammetry rigs with addition of advanced Disney PBR material reconstruction. This particular setup is great for prop and flat 2D material scanning. Compact, portable and could be powered by off the shelf 12V Power banks.

Naked eyes can really play a trick on you. Cranking things is to false colors is important to see real color uniformity of lights. As a part of rig assembly and packaging. Most of the things can be corrected in software but it's easier to work with more similar footage than not.

While buying a lot of LED stuff from a factory that supposed to be a single manufacturing batch there are still quite a few spectral discrepancies here and there. Most likely messed up at the packing stage or something. You can see a few that clearly have different temperature.

A wide angle view. While the standard 12-light rig is very versatile, the 24-light 180 degree Arc is ideal when scanning through a props of similar sizes and topologies. Once tuned, it's a beast.

24-light arc is coming to life with full PBR processing support. This allows to capture a lot more data faster. More stuff to come soon.

Took 3 days and a dozen takes to finally get all the multi-cam calibration worked out. We had single-cam multi-light and Light-stage-like multi-cam multi-light where everything is static. It felt like an easy thing to do but ran into a lot of little gotchas.

When scanning larger objects or surfaces that go beyond the half size of the rig, proper collimation is important to get nice uniform data after processing. Light IES profiles along with proper direction complete the calibration.

It's natural to place lights in some regular order. However, for best results, it's beneficial to break the symmetries with respect to the scanning plane to ensure less correlation in the input. This was a moderately glossy varnished wooden mask typical of natural surfaces.

While Diffuse albedo and Normal components we see very little difference, some, like roughness and reflectance would converge rather quickly depending on the actual surface. \

While a 12-light setup gives us the best robustness under a great variety of scanning conditions and configurations, e.g. single vs multi view, simple 2D materials vs complex props with a lot of geometric occlusions, our software can handle very low light counts in many cases. \

Single view PBR material scanning configuration. One of the quickest 2D capture and reconstruction modes that requires at least 12 cross polarized lights. Just flip the rig and it's ready to go.
