During these years, I struggled with anxiety attacks and chronic headaches. I met my wife, and spent every penny I had to travel to Italy with her.

Being in that building with all those incredible people was the best year of my life. There is nothing that can replace being around positive people who inspire you, challenge you, and build you up. #nobadframes

I hadn’t even finished the trailer yet when I started showing it around. Nick from @gunneranimation saw it and essentially told me to quit my job and go freelance. He offered me a seat (to freelance from) in their new studio, Hobbes, and I didn’t think twice.

Towards the end of 2018, I was feeling really unhappy at my job. I wasn’t that great at 2d animation if I’m being honest, and there wasn’t any opportunities for me to get on the 3d projects there. That’s when I decided to reach out to RW and make my first product trailer.

But I soaked up a lot of knowledge from my peers at Flavor, and continued to watch a lot of tutorials. I was obsessed with Cinema4d, despite almost every 3d artist and teacher telling me that Maya is the only 3d software worth learning.

I had taken a couple 3d courses in school, but they were all in Maya, and they were mostly geared towards a traditional animation pipeline. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. I couldn’t wrap my head around things like uv mapping.

After I graduated in 2015, the program director got me another interview at Flavor. Where I worked on more furniture commercials, and a lot of automotive campaigns. (Still working in After Effects, but dabbling in Cinema4d and Maya.)

I would go into the program directors office every single day, show him my reel, and ask him how to improve. He would give me assignments, and I visit him over and over again until he finally got me an interview at a small shop making clearance house furniture commercials.

From 5:45am to 2:00pm I would sit behind the desk at Planet Fitness watching hours of AE tutorials. Then I would drive accords town to attend classes until 11:00pm.

I refocused my courses to the ‘Media and Communication” program, and eventually found out about After Effects. I became obsessed with the idea of becoming a motion designer.

While I went back to school I worked full time as a baker at Tim Hortons, and then a ‘front desk’ employee at Planet Fitness. I started shooting wedding photos on the weekends and became obsessed with photography.

In 2013 I got fired from Gamestop after working there for 6 years. A deposit of $700 went missing and they pinned it on me. I later defaulted on my car note and had to move into my friend’s basement while I enrolled back into community college.
