These troubling patterns need to be addressed in order for residents to gain trust in law enforcement and facilitate public safety.

For many, getting stopped has become an unwelcome barrier to their daily lives, hindering their ability to move freely and confidently within their own community.

This highlights a troubling history in District 11, where residents strive to travel and commute safely in their neighborhood but face some of the highest rates of pretextual traffic stops.

People affiliated with hate and extremist groups – including the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters – should have no place in policing our streets.

We also demand that a task force to include community stakeholders be formed to plan and implement a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach to preventing, identifying and eliminating white supremacist extremist activities and associations within the Chicago Police Department.

Impact for Equity urges the local government and Police Superintendent Larry Snelling to immediately terminate Chicago Police officers who have been identified as having ties to the Oath Keepers, a white supremacist, anti-government extremist militia organization.

“[S]uch vehicle searches, typically following pretextual traffic stops, disproportionately burden Black and Latino drivers, who are likewise targeted for disparate enforcement of cannabis laws[,]”.
