⭐️⭐️They’re baaaa-ack!⭐️⭐️ I’m at a new school with a fresh crop of FAQs popping up, so I decided to create a new series of videos to help teach library procedures (and deliver school-wide announcements too). https://t.co/9lwXWPD5Xe

If you've been playing along at home, it might sound like the project Amanda will start is moving the nonfiction collection to...

Last, but not least among the states - all our national park books! When one of our students asks for a national park book, they typically want to see them all at once. They'll get their own special section.

Also among the state books - our extensive collection of Native American nonfiction. Based on the way our students search these make MUCH more sense set apart in their own section.

These history books were shelved within the state books. While I understand this choice, I think they'd better serve our population if periods of history were grouped together - U.S. Colonies/Westward Expansion/Civil Rights, etc.

Our You Choose/Can You Survive/Interactive Adventure books are getting no love! I'm going to pull them all together as well and see if we can't get some higher circulation numbers.

These sports biographies were languishing in the 920s (collective biographies), They'll be moved to 796 with their individual sports.

Look at our amazing collection of books with experiments! These are often requested, but Ss and I end up running all over the nonfiction section to see each of them. They'll be pulled together and likely get their own bin.

Also hiding in the disasters I found these three. They'll be moved into a weather subsection called extreme weather with tornadoes, volcanoes, and the like.

Two rogue Titanic books were in the 363 disasters. They'll join their brethren in the 900s.

These books about all 50 states were scattered all over the 900s. I'll pull them together in their own section. Maybe 973?

Various mythology was also scattered in the 398.2s. They could possibly be added to our existing mythology section in the 292s, but I will more likely pull them completely out of nonfiction, along with all our fairy tales. Stay tuned!

Next up - Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, et al. These were in the 398.2s with the fairy tales, but I feel they fit better with other spooky tales in the 177s.

These’ll move to our ER Nonfiction section (the easiest of all the changes I'm making). They are geared toward lower reading lvls and, most importantly, they freq. get lost behind larger books in the NF section. My ER NF books are housed in bins that will serve these titles well.

Nonfiction weeding completed! 🎉 Let me introduce you to my island of misfit toys, aka "books I can’t allow to remain shelves where they are and still sleep at night".Yes, there is a three-tiered, two-sided cart full. Time to recatalog! And maybe start a massive project...a 🧵

Kindergarten and 1st grade receive stickers and an eraser for returning their books. I love this day because: - Kids get excited - We’re recognizing their responsibility - Teachers get to SEE the massive amount of books that are circulating in our school

It’s library book return day! All classes have scheduled a time to come to the library and receive prizes. Grades 2-5 receive poster raffle slips. After filling them out, Ss place their slip in the envelope matching their poster number. On Monday I’ll draw for winners.

In my 2025 weeding adventure I’ve hit the train wreck that is our 900 section. 😂 First question: Does our elementary school really need 10 books on Antarctica? (Yes, I found one more after this pic) Circ stats say no. Solution: Moved one to ER Nonfiction and weeded 3.

I did not expect to heavily weed both the Everybody and Nonfiction sections this year, but….here we are. 😂 Still chugging along!

I’m pushing myself to weed our nonfiction section before the end of the school year. I’d like to thank all the librarians before me who recommended not starting at the 000’s (only to burn out in the 398.2s). I started at 599 working backwards and it has been GREAT so far!

One of my favorite calming activities as of late is finding a new place to walk with my dog and working on my birdsong identification using the Merlin app. We found a stunning variety of songs on a recent outing!
