Dr. Elliot Smith examines electrical signals from patients undergoing neurosurgical treatment for epilepsy. He also studies the geometrical organization of brain activity during seizures, interictal discharges, and how epileptiform activity disrupts normal cognition.

Dr. Kevin Staley leads the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Lab, where he studies neuronal ion transport and synaptic plasticity alter the spread of epileptic activity in neural networks. His work also has implications for neuronal volume changes after brain injury.

Rami Burstein, PhD, is a professor of anesthesia and neuroscience at Harvard Medical School. Among many discoveries relevant to pain and migraine, Dr. Burstein’s group provided key evidence that SDs could generate nociceptive activity, conclusively linking SD to migraine.
