I was lucky to have a supervisor who gave me his time when I needed it, and I am happy to be able to pay that forward. Also, Calgary is a fantastic place to live (if you like calm, quiet, and access to nature, but also people when you choose). You can learn to embrace the cold!.

. and try to tailor what I offer to what each individual student needs/wants, be it a future in academia or industry (or both!). I also try to cultivate a sense of fun in what we do (because, let's face it, why suffer through something like a Ph.D.).

. so I spend a lot of time thinking about research questions and helping my students find hard problems, with the aim that, by the end, they have developed the skills, mindset, and drive for independence. I keep things grounded by collaborating with friends in Industry. .

Why consider doing a Ph.D. with me? I try to be a supervisor who cares about the development of my students as independent researchers and as people. Doing a Ph.D. is not a trivial pursuit and will challenge you to find out how you handle being right on the edge of knowledge. .
