The Prime Minister has just announced that he is abolishing NHS England. I am sure there will scope for efficiency savings by merging functions in DHSC and NHSE. But announcing this live without any warning for staff won’t do anything to improve staff morale among NHS managers.

Darzi- we all kind of knew what he was going to say. And today I am reading/watching very clever people saying they know what’s best. And I’m here wandering, what do patients want? What if the system really did- as is often claimed- ‘put patients at the centre’?

Health systems don’t fail because of aging populations. They don’t fail because of multimorbidity. They don’t fail because of ‘patient expectations’. They fail because we (policy makers, healthcare leaders and providers) make care far more complex than it needs to be.
