Hello world! 🙋🏾‍♀️ So I’ve decided to create a new professional twitter account where I can discuss my views on tech, share my journey, keep up-to-date with business and tech news, network with like-minded people and spread a bit of positivity along the way 🌍✨.

Having a ticket with 17 AC’s and 2 story points is absolutely criminal.

When testing it’s not always about verifying what’s there. It’s also about spotting what’s there that shouldn’t be there. #ThePowerOfExploratoryTesting.

Having the ability to problem solve is one of your biggest assets as a tester.

The Team! 👥 . Who’s who? Who does what? Who are the product experts? How does agile work here? What meetings must I attend? What value can I bring to the team?🤔.

Knowing how the product is tested! . What are the test processes? What tools are being used? Type of testing? What test environments? Regression tests automated/manual? What goals are the team looking to achieve? 🧐.

Getting to know the product! It’s time for your curiosity to kick in ⏰. What business problem is it looking to resolve? Who are the users? What are the workflows? Where are the vulnerabilities? Where are the intersections with other services?.

Usually when joining a new project, in the initial weeks there’s 3 main things I like to focus on:. • Getting to know the product.• Knowing how the product is tested.• Getting to know the team. I’ll go into detail on these in the thread.

It’s been 2 weeks since I started my new QA role and it’s been a great experience so far. Luckily it hasn’t been a rushed process and I’ve had the right balance of not being overly spoon-fed information while leaving room for my own exploration and discovery.

Hearing about some of the projects you guys are working on has inspired me to start working on one of my own. (See thread).

Having to commute to work daily for the first time since 2020 I forgot how productive I can be in the mornings 🚝. Reading, thinking, observing, reflecting, new ideas! It’s almost like my brain is in overdrive. Don’t ask about my train ride home hehe.

For anyone in a similar position to me who may be wondering what type of questions to ask as a QA joining a new team/organisation, I found this article extremely useful

I’ll be starting my new QA role on Monday. Very excited to be starting a new venture and getting back into testing especially as I’ve been out of work for a while.

I understand why some test engineers refuse to identify themselves as solely a “manual” or “automation” tester. This is a mindset I now align with.

Great analogy from Andrew Brown explaining the ‘Swiss cheese model’ in relation to testing complex systems #PeersCon24
