Your art is not "data" they can freely feed into frankenstein generators, it is an enormous red flag that the language they use in this is vague and in-line with DeviantArt's "we've automatically marked everything as safe-to-scrape, but you can click out tho :)"

They're trying to brush this under the rug by claiming "she's only one of our many volunteers," and conveniently leaving out the, yknow, HEAD OF THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT title. They shouldn't get a lick of peace over this. Next time their "donation drives" come around, remember.

For those out of the loop, earlier this week AO3's HEAD OF THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT was in an ao3 blogpost publicly gushing about training AI on fanfics. This has since been deleted. AO3's "apology statement" is that "futurely, you can opt out :)" THIS SHOULDN'T BE OPT-OUT.

@OTW_News Sorry, but “users should be allowed to OPT OUT from having their works incorporated into AI training sets” is ridiculous. Users should be allowed to ‘OPT IN’. That should be the default. Not the other way around. This seriously puts in doubt the sincerity of their intentions.
